About KSHS

Kallamino Special High School/KSHS is one of the TDA’s flagship projects founded in 8th of December 1998 G.C as a full-scholarship boarding secondary school, which provides learning opportunity for talents from all primary schools of Tigray National Regional State.

The KSHS was established with the objective to build up a science-and-technology focused curriculum or educational system particularly in Tigray and in Ethiopia at large in order to create innovative, creative and productive generations.

From its inception to date, the KSHS has enrolled a total of 2,437 (Female 1016 and Male 1421) students, of whom 1,616 (Female 617 and Male 999) have thus far graduated. What is interesting here is the consistently increasing enrollment rates of students from year to year.

From the outset, the KSHS received only 60 students each year from 1990-1996 E.C, and then raised it to 90 students per annum between 1997 to 2006 E.C. In 2007 E.C. was mounted to 120 and to 160 students a year from 2008-2009 E.C.  However; because of budget constraint the school did not receive any student in the year 1999 E.C. In 2010 E.C, the school enrolled 200 students yearly, and albeit unfortunately interrupted by the deadliest 2 years’ war in Tigray, there was a plan to admit 250 students in 2012 E.C.

In 2016 E.C, the KSHS has brought back 563 former students after the war in Tigray ended, and recently graduated 106 12 graders. At present, there are 457 students at KSHS.

At present, the KSHS is well staffed with 148 permanent and contract administrative employees, and 35 teachers, of whom one is of contract basis.
