Our school has successfully hosted its Annual Science Fair on the month of June, welcoming students and teachers from 20 schools across Mekelle, as well as student and representatives from the Science Shared Campuses of Adigrat, Raya, and Axum Universities. The event marked a strong comeback for the school’s long-standing science fair tradition, which had been interrupted by the war in the region.
The Science Fair Exhibition aimed to spark scientific curiosity, share Kallamino’s culture of inquiry and students creativity, promote knowledge exchange, and build relationships with other schools.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Weldebrhan Meresu, Vice Managing Director of the school, welcomed the visiting schools and addressed the fair’s mission. He spoke passionately about the devastating impact of the war on education in Tigray, noting that “it is time to rise from our deep sleep.” He proudly highlighted Kallamino students’ extraordinary achievements by breaking the national record in the Grade 12 university entrance exam and winning trophies in national science competitions—as proof that it is possible to rise from the ashes.
“This science fair is not held because we have all the resources,” he noted. “It’s held because we believe in starting with what we have—and encouraging others to do the same. We welcome all schools to visit, learn, and be inspired.”
Attendees toured a range of student-led exhibits in the STEM Center, biology and physics laboratories, ICT labs, and the student’s agriculture demonstration field. They also visited the Alumni Archive Center which highlighted the school’s journey, showcasing past achievements and its ongoing efforts to rebuild through education.
Moreover, the day also featured a question and answer competition among sisterly schools, adding an interactive and competitive spirit to the event.
After a highly competitive rounds, Kallamino Special High School claimed first place, followed by Hadnet Secondary School and Nicolas Robinson School in second and third positions, respectively.
Student Abel Assefa and Mekdes Abrha both from Kallamino secured first and second places and received a 2,000 and 1,500 Birr award respectively, while Tekleweyni Welday from Hadnet Secondary School earned third place, receiving 1,000 Birr.
The Annual Science Fair held today reaffirmed the school’s commitment to academic excellence, resilience, and shared growth in the post-war recovery journey.
