Kallamino Special High School Announces Entrance Examination Eligibility and Application Guidelines for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
MEKELLE, TIGRAY – The Tigrai Development Association (TDA) and Kallamino Special High School (KSHS) are pleased to announce the official eligibility criteria and application guidelines for the 2026/2027 Grade 9 Entrance Examination.
Built on the principles of merit, fairness, and equal opportunity, this year’s admission process is designed to identify and nurture Tigray’s most promising young minds while upholding KSHS’s longstanding tradition of academic excellence.
A total of 1,483 outstanding students—801 girls and 682 boys—have qualified to apply through one of the following eligibility pathways.
Admission Eligibility Criteria: Applicants are eligible to sit for the KSHS Entrance Examination if they satisfy either of the following requirements:
@Pathway A: Obtain an average score of 85% or above in the Grade 8 Regional Examination.
Pathway B: Obtain an average score of 80% or above in the Grade 8 Regional Examination; AND
Rank among the Top Five students in their respective school based on the Grade 8 Regional Examination results.
Standard Rounding Policy: To ensure fairness, consistency, and transparency, standard mathematical rounding rules will apply. Accordingly, scores within 0.5 points of either threshold (84.50% for 85, or 79.50% for 80) are rounded up to meet the requirement.
Entrance Examination Structure: The examination will assess knowledge and competencies based on the Grades 7 and 8 curriculum according to the following weighting:
Mathematics: 25%
English: 15%
Biology: 15%
Chemistry: 15%
Physics: 15%
@Scholastic Aptitude: 15%

Examination Centres: To ensure accessibility for students across the region and beyond, the entrance examination will be administered simultaneously at the following centres:
Mekelle
Maichew
Adigrat
Abiyi Adi
Axum
Shire
Addis Ababa (for eligible Tigrayan students residing outside Tigray)
Examination Date: The examination will be conducted simultaneously at all centres on a single standardized date. The official examination date will be announced through KSHS’s official communication channels in due course.
Important Notice:
Only applicants who meet the stated eligibility criteria and successfully complete the online registration process will be permitted to sit for the entrance examination. Applicants are advised to ensure that all submitted information is accurate and complete.

Established by the Tigrai Development Association (TDA) as part of its long-term vision of developing future leaders through quality education, Kallamino Special High School admitted its first cohort of 60 students in December 1997. Over the past 27 cohorts, the school has enrolled 2,868 students, with 2,129 graduates successfully completing their studies. More than 1,500 alumni have graduated from higher education institutions and now serve with distinction in medicine, engineering, science, technology, research, education, business, and public service across Tigray, Ethiopia, and around the world. Building on nearly three decades of educational excellence, TDA is advancing plans to establish 12 additional Special High Schools across Tigray, expanding access to high-quality education for the region’s brightest students and investing in the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of Tigray.
